Johns Hopkins Medicine CME: Healthcare Improvement Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA)

(This activity has been approved for 1.25  AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ )

 Introduction:

The Department of Health and Human Services published a study on Medicare patients in 2010 that  showed a concerning level of adverse events, some of which led to the death of patients, that arose from mistakes in their medical care.  It is no surprise that health care reform policy has focused on improving quality and safety.  Whether it be PQRS, Meaningful Use,  the Accountable Care Organization mandate, Medicare’s Pay for Performance or your specialty board’s Maintenance of Certification program,  knowledge of health care improvement processes are an important skill for all physicians to obtain.  Rapid Cycle Improvement as characterized by the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) tool forms the basis for many of the health care improvement initiatives listed above.  This course is designed to provide any physician with the skill to implement continuous  process improvement utilizing the PDSA tool.  With these skills will come  greater efficiency for your practice, and higher quality and safety for your patients.
